The Bloggers' Exchange intends to help its community get ahead of the move towards targeted social media as a means of staying informed about current events.
In targeted social media, your news stream combines material selected from feeds orginating with a number of different sources. These targeted streams will be personalized to each individual, and will be constantly adjusted to various factors such as your geographical location, your observed reading habits, and your expressed preferences.
Thomas Baekdal in "Where is Everyone" has published an interesting timeline, shown in part at the left, which forecasts targeted media as the culmination of evolution in the methods for collecting and diseminating news. Along with the timeline, the article provides some useful definitions of targeted media and other forms of social media.

A new list of the twenty-five most valuable blogs has been published by 24/7 Wall St.
Value as measured in this survey is not by the information content or the editorial value add but by the most bottom-line of measures: what someone might be willing to pay for the property.
In analyzing the data reported with this list, we found that the primary factor affecting valuation for these blogs is the number of unique visitors per month. We also found that size mattered, with disproportionately greater value being assigned to the most visited blogs.

The Bloggers' Exchange provides novice and intermediate bloggers and self-publishers with ideas and resources that will help them establish or improve their presence on the web.
A successful website engages a community of followers, who visit the site frequently, interacting with the site content and with each other. This requires an investment in those services and tools that will help the site present its best self. In our experience, success on the web depends on three factors, having something to say, saying it well, and connecting with a group of interested readers.

The History Commons website is an experiment in open-content civic journalism.
The Commons describes itself as helping people "conduct grassroots-level investigations..., providing the public with a useful tool to conduct oversight of government and private sector entities." The History Commons website says it blurs the line between readers and journalists, covering topics at the local, regional, and global level. The Commons has a systematic archive, reducing the fragmentation of the historical record.

Several new, for profit, syndication servcies have emerged to distribute news articles published by citizen journalists. Some of the services pay contributors for submitting content, while others do not pay until the content is requested by a subscriber.
Some of the for-profit syndicators are adding services which license subscribers to republish articles on their own portals or blogs. These for-profit services are not yet publishing cataloged archives of their material.
